Development Plans

Common Ground Center is being developed on 700 acres, the site of an old horse and potato farm. The property now has a farmhouse, three barns and two other residences. As of the end of 2005, we have added 11 cabins and a bathhouse, and have remodeled one of the barns into a dining hall, kitchen and program space. The second large barn is slated for remodeling during the winter/spring of 2006, to become the center of our children’s programs. Four additional cabins will also be added. In addition, efforts will be made to soundproof the dining hall:

Present plans call for the build-out of the property in the following phases:

  • Phase I: a facility for 100 people, centered in the existing barns, cabins and bathhouse, and a pond, to be largely completed in the spring of 2006 (the pond to be dug in the fall)
  • Phase II: a facility for 120 -130 people, with a sleeping lodge with bathroom facilities, a new dining hall, a meditation hut and outdoor sports courts
  • Phase III: winterization of the sleeping lodge and dining hall, with indoor accommodations for 30-50 people
  • Phase IV: a facility for 160 people, with an additional bathhouse, an expansion of the new dining hall and a toddler gazebo
  • Phase V: completion of the facility, including a greenhouse, animal barn, and other outbuildings

Lumber is being cut from wood logged on the property and stored for future use to build cabins and program buildings.
